ZONE PLANS BUILT FOR COMPLIANCE & CLARITY

Fire Alarm Zone Plan and Installation

Every non-domestic fire alarm system needs a zone plan that accurately reflects the building it protects. We produce these for sites across the UK, working to BS 5839 requirements and supporting compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Beginning with a full site survey, the final zone plan for the fire alarm system shows the real building layout, including entrances, circulation routes, floor levels and how your building’s zones actually divide.

MEETING BS5839, EVERYTIME

Fire Alarm Zone Plan Requirements

The current British Standard for fire detection and fire alarm systems (BS 5839) sets out the requirements for zone plans. The zone plan must be displayed on or next to every fire alarm panel and repeater, showing:

  • The building’s entrances and main circulation areas.
  • Floor levels and how the building divides into zones.
  • The correct orientation, matching the real layout as seen from the panel.

A missing, outdated or incorrectly orientated zone plan is one of the most common non-compliances picked up during routine servicing and fire risk assessments.

From offices and retail units to schools, hotels and multi-occupancy buildings, every plan we produce is built to meet these requirements from day one.

FROM SURVEY TO SIGN OFF

Our Fire Alarm Zone Plan Process

No two buildings zone the same way, so we start on site for a full survey. From there, we keep the process simple and disruption-free:

  • Our engineers visit your premises to record the building layout, zone boundaries and panel or repeater locations.
  • We produce a CAD-drawn plan showing entrances, circulation routes, floor levels and zone divisions.
  • The plan is drawn to match the view from the panel, so it’s correctly orientated and easy to read at a glance.
  • You review and sign off the plan before anything is fitted.
  • We fit the finished plan in a frame on or next to each CIE, including repeater panels where fitted.

Most jobs are completed in a single visit, and if you later extend or reconfigure your zones, we can revise the plan, so it stays accurate and compliant.

FIRE SAFETY SPECIALISTS ACROSS THE UK

Why Choose Bolt?

With over 300 sites worked on, we know that a zone plan is only as good as the survey behind it. That’s why every plan we produce is based on your actual building, not a generic template, correctly orientated and ready to stand up to a fire risk assessment or insurance review.

Your zone plan also sits alongside our fire alarm installation, commissioning and maintenance services, so the whole system, not just the plan on the wall, stays compliant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Need Answers Before You Get Started?

Is a fire alarm zone plan a legal requirement?

BS 5839 requires a zone plan to be displayed at every fire alarm control and indicating equipment (CIE), including repeater panels. Fire risk assessors and insurers commonly expect to see one in place as part of a compliant system.

Where should a zone plan be located?

Next to or on each Control and Indicating Equipment, meaning the main fire alarm panel and any repeater panels around the building.

What happens if my zone plan is out of date?

An outdated plan no longer matches your building or zoning and is commonly picked up as a non-compliance during routine fire alarm maintenance. We can review and update your existing plan.
